“Thank you, but we do not print fiction.” That was the response from news magazines when the first visitors to Yellowstone reported what they saw. Imagine trying to describe a landscape dotted with hot springs, geysers, boiling mud pots, and breathtaking waterfalls.
Yellowstone National Park was established as America’s first national park in 1872 and remains one of our most popular parks. Located primarily in Wyoming, Yellowstone covers almost 3,500 miles.
Yellowstone sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to about 50 percent of the world’s hydrothermal features including Old Faithful, one of the most recognizable natural wonders in the country.
The video below is a great introduction to Yellowstone National Park. You can even find several live webcams including one for Old Faithful. Their YouTube channel is a great resource for travel from home.
UPDATE:
Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Yellowstone National Park will reopen on a limited basis on May 18 at noon.
